Implementation specialists ensure that client systems are properly adapted and deployed by performing a variety of tasks. Implementation specialist is responsible for working with the project team to get the implementation process on track for client purchases, ensuring that clients get the most out of their investment in the developed solution. The product implementation specialist represents the manufacturer by networking directly with the client to understand their needs and ensure key deliverables are provided. They collect data using tools such as SQL database management systems, communicate technical requirements to the production department, ensure that the production team clearly understands the data set requirements, coordinate required safety and other audits, and follow set procedures. They also manage the implementation of the developed technology into the product, resolve issues, and train end users in its operation.   

Other responsibilities of the implementation specialist may include the independent handling of client implementation projects and the exact configuration of the product at the customer's premises or the place of purchase. Depending on the client's needs and their own expertise in product design, development, and the implementation process, they may need to work with another implementation specialist. Although the implementation specialist spends most of their time in an office environment, they may have to travel to meet customers and install hardware. They also have reporting and collaboration tasks with a small team of other implementation specialists.

If a client requests an additional configuration that goes beyond the initial scope of the implementation project, the implementation specialist can create additional work. If the client is late in providing data or information, the implementation specialist must adjust the project date and schedule. Sometimes these changes require meeting with the liaison manager and the client to negotiate a new project scope.

Implementation specialist jobs require a high level of technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and experience to meet the client's requirements and to install the system correctly. When performing tasks similar to computer user support specialists, an implementation specialist may need to spend a significant amount of time working directly with customers. Excellent customer service skills are vital in this role.   

An implementation specialist needs organizational skills to ensure that tasks are assigned and completed on time. They need to make sure the entire team knows when to do their tasks to keep the work on schedule, tracking project milestones and creating custom reports. Time management skills are important, as they are responsible for ensuring that systems are delivered to clients on time. They also need to have good problem-solving skills to determine how to adapt the system to the needs of the customer.

Getting the product ready for the client and making sure they can use it requires a mix of technical skills, project management skills, and customer service skills. The project team often has a liaison manager to manage the ongoing client relationship and at least one implementation specialist to handle the technical aspects of the customer experience such as client support, training, technical assistance, and documentation. Implementation specialist responsibilities include gathering client feedback, resolving issues, and ensuring that customers have a good experience and get what they need from the products they buy.

Strong written communication skills are essential for preparing instructions and e-mail responses for employees and clients. Successful implementation specialists are detail-oriented, result-oriented individuals who do everything necessary to meet the needs of the client and ensure customer satisfaction. Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills are key to being successful in implementation specialist jobs.

The education qualifications for implementation specialist jobs usually include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Engineering Management, or a related field. Experience in project management is also an advantage for an implementation specialist. They must have good technical skills and be able to work with key software such as SQL database management systems. Each implementation consultant plays an important role in steering the project direction and product implementation. All in all, it is a difficult, complex, and very influential role, but it is also very rewarding.
